The Reys were born in Hamburg, Germany. Hans Augusto Rey (1898-1977) met his wife-to-be, Margret (1906-1996), at a party in her father's home in Germany; when he first caught a glimpse of her, she was sliding down the banister. In their twenties and thirties they lived in Paris and in Rio de Janeiro, where Hans sold bathtubs in villages along the Amazon River. Eventually Cambridge, Massachusetts, became the Reys' home and community. Throughout their lives the Reys created many lively books together, including SPOTTY, PRETZEL, and lift-the-flap books such as HOW DO YOU GET THERE? The manuscript of the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and CURIOUS GEORGE was published in 1941. Their incorrigible little monkey has become an American icon, selling millions of books and capturing the hearts of readers everywhere. CURIOUS GEORGE has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Additional Curious George books followed, as well as such other favorites as CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS and FIND THE CONSTELLATIONS.

    Curious George and the Puppies

    Curious George and the Puppies

    Price: $3.03 (as of 2014-01-15 - Details)

Following the style of the original creators of the Curious George books, the artists have provided young readers with a new story. George is a curious monkey, and one day he goes out with his good friend—the man with the yellow hat. They sit on a park bench and find a kitten. They decide that the kitten should be taken to the animal shelter, and then we see what happens when George's curiosity really takes hold. He is captivated by the puppies, and before you know it, he has let them out of their cage and my goodness they are into everything. As the man with the yellow hat and the director of the shelter gather them all up, they notice the mother dog barking at a door. One of the puppies had gotten away earlier in the day and hidden in the closet, now he is rescued and joins the rest of his family. George is instrumental in bringing about a happy ending, and, what is more, he ends up taking one of the puppies home. George is really very much like any curious two or three year-old. The original version of this story has been reissued in a lap-sized board book.

    Curious George's Opposites

    Curious George's Opposites

    Price: $5.36 (as of 2013-10-24 - Details)

PreSchool-Using illustrations from the original Curious George series (Houghton Mifflin), the publisher has produced two very nice board books, translated into a neutral and accessible Spanish appropriate for younger audiences. In Curious George and the Bunny, the lovable monkey is featured in a problem-solving story. George cannot resist approaching a cage full of bunnies and taking one out to pet. When one escapes and runs away, George must devise a way to find him and bring him back to his mother. In Curious George's Opposites, there is no story, rather a series of scenes featuring the mischievous monkey that illustrate concepts, such as up, down; in front, behind; dry, wet; and so forth. Recommended for bookstores and libraries serving preschoolers.Maria Otero-Boisvert, "Criticas" Copyright 2002 Reed Business Information, Inc. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
