Five Little Monkeys Sitting in a Tree (A Five Little Monkeys Story)

    Price: $12.09 (as of 2014-02-17 - Details)

PreSchool-K-- The irrepressible crew from Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed (Clarion, 1989) returns in this version of a traditional hand rhyme. The familiar chant tells of five foolish monkeys who are eaten when they tease a hungry crocodile. Christelow chooses a more lighthearted approach, illustrating it in sunny-colored pastels outlined in ink. She places the rhyme in a picnic setting; while the mother dozes, the little monkeys scamper out on a limb and fearlessly call to a crocodile, "You can't catch me!" But the crocodile's jaws snap, and one by one the monkeys disappear. Bright patches of clothing and pairs of little eyes among the leaves will signal perceptive listeners that all is well. Children will enjoy being in on the secret that even the mother monkey, awakened by all the noise, doesn't know. In the upbeat ending, all the children pop out of their hiding places, safe and sound. Some readers may question why the mother snoozes, leaving her brood to look after themselves, or why she doesn't come to their aid when she thinks they are in danger. The intended audience, however, will overlook these lapses of logic as they delight in the mischief-making--a humorous exaggeration of their own antics. --Carey Ayres, Port Washington Public Library, NYCopyright 1991 Reed Business Information, Inc.

PreSchool-Grade 2-When five bored little monkeys complain of nothing to do, their mother gladly enlists their help in getting ready for Grandma's visit. In a great scurry, they clean their room, scrub the bathroom, beat the rug, and pick berries for dessert. Unfortunately, when they turn to readying themselves, they undo all their good work and muss and muddy the entire house. Wordless final pictures show them cleaning again.

Five Little Monkeys Wash The Car (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition) (Five Little Monkeys Picture Books)

The five little monkeys and their mama have had it with their "rickety, rattletrap wreck of a car." It's time to sell this old heap. Mama makes a "For Sale" sign and goes inside. But her ever-helpful children worry that the car is too icky, sticky, and slimy, and take matters into their own industrious hands. "I know!" says one little monkey. And next thing they know, they're washing and scrubbing the filthy jalopy. Now it's clean, but still rusty and stinky. The monkeys ponder. "I know!" says one little monkey. Soon the car is painted and perfumed within an inch of its life. Unfortunately, it's not visible to potential buyers. "I know!" says one little monkey. With all these collective brainstorms, it's not long before the sparkly clean, psychedelically colorful car has landed in the swamp, with the five chagrined little monkeys inside, and a gaggle of crocodiles lurking nearby, licking their chops. How will they ever get themselves out of this mess, and sell the car, to boot? "I know!" says one little monkey... These five are no strangers to silly predicaments and clever solutions, as evidenced in Eileen Christelow's four other entertaining picture books about the quintet, including Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed and Five Little Monkeys Sitting in a Tree. (Ages 3 to 7) --Emilie Coulter --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
